Bed Size Guide for the UAE: 180×200, 200×200 and What Actually Fits
Quick answer
In the UAE the common mattress sizes are 120×190 (single), 150×200 (queen), 180×200 (king) and 200×200 (super king). 180×200 is the default master-bedroom size in most Dubai apartments.
Allow 60–70 cm of walking space on at least two sides of the bed, plus 90 cm in front of a wardrobe. If a 180×200 bed leaves less than 60 cm on the wardrobe side, drop to 150×200 — the mattress upgrade is cheaper than a bedroom that never works.

UAE sizes vs what you may have bought abroad
If you are relocating, your existing bedding may not fit. UAE retail runs on 200 cm length, while US mattresses are 203 cm and UK mattresses are 190 cm. Sheets bought for a UK king will not fit a UAE 180×200 properly, and a US queen (153×203) is close enough to 150×200 to feel wrong at the corners.
| UAE size | Dimensions (cm) | Common name | Typical room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90 × 190 | Single | Kids' room, guest room |
| Small double | 120 × 190 | Four-foot | Kids' room, small guest room, studio |
| Queen | 150 × 200 | Queen | 1-bedroom master, guest room |
| King | 180 × 200 | King | Default master in Dubai apartments |
| Super king | 200 × 200 | Super king | Villas, large master suites |
Sizing the bed to the room, not the other way round
A typical Dubai apartment master bedroom is 3.4 × 4.0 m. Put a 180×200 bed with a 10 cm headboard against the 3.4 m wall and you have 160 cm left over: 70 cm on one side, 90 cm on the other, no room for a bedside table on both sides. That is the difference between a hotel feel and a squeeze.
Two side tables of 45–50 cm each need 100 cm of the leftover width, which leaves 60 cm of walking space at the foot of the bed. If your room is 3.0 m wide or less, a 150×200 bed with two slim tables reads far better than a king with none.
Bed frames, headboards and the space they eat
The mattress size is not the footprint. Upholstered platform beds commonly add 8–15 cm per side, plus a headboard of 10–20 cm depth. A 180×200 mattress in a boucle platform frame can occupy 200 × 225 cm. Always size the frame, not the mattress.
- Platform beds: no box spring needed, easiest to keep dust-free, lowest visual weight.
- Storage beds: gain 20–30 cm of height but the drawers need 50 cm of clear floor to open.
- Upholstered headboards: add comfort for sitting up, add 10–20 cm of depth.
- Metal or wood slat frames: lightest look for small rooms, but check the slat spacing for your mattress type.
Mattress thickness, sheets and the small practicalities
Most UAE mattresses are 25–30 cm deep, which suits standard fitted sheets. If you choose a 35 cm deep mattress, confirm the sheet depth before you buy ten sets. For bunk beds, keep the mattress at 15–18 cm — anything thicker defeats the guardrail.
Finally, measure the route. A 200×200 mattress does not bend. Service lifts, stair turns and bedroom doorways decide whether your super king arrives rolled, folded or not at all.
The bedroom checklist before you order
- Room width minus frame width: at least 60 cm on the side you get out of, ideally 70 cm.
- Wardrobe clearance: 90 cm for hinged doors, 60 cm for sliding.
- Door swing: the bedroom door must open fully without hitting the bed frame.
- AC unit position: nothing within 60 cm of the indoor unit, or the airflow lands directly on the pillow.
- Route: lift door width, stair turn radius, and the packed dimension of the frame — not the mattress.
If two of these fail, drop one mattress size rather than compromising all five. A 150×200 bed in a room that works beats a 180×200 bed in a room you squeeze past.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard bed size in Dubai?
180×200 cm (king) is the most common master-bedroom size in Dubai apartments. Guest rooms are usually 150×200, kids' rooms 120×190.
Is a UAE king the same as a UK king?
No. A UK king is 150×200; a UAE king is 180×200. UK bedding will not fit a UAE king.
How much space should I leave around a bed?
60–70 cm on the sides you get in and out of, 60 cm at the foot for walking, and 90 cm in front of hinged wardrobe doors.
Will a 200×200 bed fit in an apartment lift?
Rarely in one piece. Most super-king mattresses are delivered compressed or via stairwell — confirm lift door width (often 80–90 cm) before ordering.
